Spatiotemporal evolution of coal spontaneous combustion in longwall gobs: A case study from mining discontinuation to resumption

Abstract: Coal spontaneous combustion has always been a major issue in mine production, which mainly occurs in longwall gobs. The active functional groups in the coal surface molecules react with oxygen molecules and release heat. [1][2][3] When the oxygen supply is sufficient and the heat storage condition is good, the heat released by the oxidation reaction accumulates continuously and causes the coal temperature to rise. This can ultimately result in spontaneous combustion in the gobs.
