Stability and Control of Retracement Channels in Thin Seam Working Faces with Soft Roof

Abstract: To reduce the risk of roof falling and rib spalling during equipment retracement in thin coal seam faces with soft roofs, the 25070 working face of Xuehu Coal Mine was taken as the research object, and theoretical analysis, numerical simulation, and field practice methods were used. Under different space relationships between retracement channels and main roof fracture, the load of hydraulic supports was quantitatively analyzed. The relationship between the working resistance of the hydraulic support and the s… Show more

“…Li et al [19] established a coal pillar mechanical model based on the theory of falling arch, theoretically determined the width of the protective coal pillar between the retracement channel, and verified its mechanical response characteristics using the FLAC 3D calculation model. Qin et al [20] proposed the relationship between the working resistance of hydraulic supports and the immediate roof sinking angle under the spatial relationship between the retracement channel and the roof fracture and determined the reasonable time for the arrangement of the retracement channel. Ma et al [21] analyzed the failure process of tunnels under different conditions and discussed the failure process and final failure mode of tunnels.…”

“…Longwall comprehensive mechanized top coal caving mining (LCMTCCM) is widely used in thick and extra‐thick coal seams in China 4,5 . In the LCMTCCM system, a large cross‐section channel parallel to the working face is used to turn and retrace equipment during the final mining period 6,7 . The large cross‐section channel is called the retracement channel, and the virgin coal between the retracement channel and main roadways is called the end‐mining coal pillar.…”

There are two types of retracement channels during the end mining of fully mechanized top coal caving face: pre-excavation retracement channel and using coal cutter to excavate retracement channel.…”
