Spatial Site Selection for Solar Power Plants Using a GIS-Based Boolean-Fuzzy Logic Model: A Case Study of Markazi Province, Iran

Abstract: Selection of suitable sites for solar power plants requires spatial evaluation taking technical, economic, and environmental considerations into account. This research has applied a fuzzy logic model to carry out spatial site selection for solar power plants in Markazi Province of Iran. Geographical Information System (GIS) capabilities have been used for spatial analysis and visualization of the research results. The suitable areas for solar power plants installation were identified by employing Boolean logic… Show more

“…Based on the literature, generally type-1 fuzzy sets have been applied to either directly or combining with other multicriteria decision making methods such as the analytic hierarchy process (AHP), VIKOR on solar power plant site selection problems. Yousefi et al 36 employed a fuzzy-GIS model to determine appropriate areas for solar power plants installation in Markazi, Iran with respect to technical, economic and environmental criteria. In addition, Zoghi et al 37 stated that renewable energy will become an indispensable place for countries and Iran is located a desirable place as a solar energy source.…”

“…A Boolean scale (0/1) was used to convert each cell in the input raster map to binary format 0 and 1, where the unsuitable and suitable areas were assigned a value of 0 and 1, respectively [28,29,34]. To produce a final map to be used for decision-making, the Boolean constraint map was summed up by the logical AND or OR operators [35].…”
