Spatial Permutation Modulation for Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) Systems

Abstract: Spatial modulation (SM) for the multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) system has attracted research interests due to its high energy and spectral efficiency. SM creates a new modulation dimension by activating a single transmit antenna according to the data bits. In this paper, we propose spatial permutation modulation (SPM) that modulates data bits to a permutation vector and activates the transmit antenna at successive time instants accordingly. The SPM achieves higher diversity and thus lower error rate sin… Show more

“…Besides, F-GSM achieves a higher data rate than the conventional SM and the generalized-SM with a lower number of transmitting antennas. In [13], a technique called spatial permutation modulation (SPM) is proposed, which modulates the data bits into a permutation vector and activates the transmit antenna in successive time samples. SPM provides higher diversity gain and lowers BER compared to the conventional SM technique.…”

“…Furthermore, compared to existing conventional MIMO in [16], number of possible conveyed bits of QSM is lower. Recently, a research on spatial permutation modulation (SPM) for MIMO systems has been published in [7]. The idea is to modulate information bits to a permutation vector and to activate the transmit antenna at consecutive time instants.…”

“…MIMO systems show better confidentiality than single-antenna systems in [26]. SPM scheme was proposed in [27], which modulates data bits into permutation vectors, and the antennas are activated according to the vectors in continuous time. This article applies SPM technology to wireless communication encryption.…”
