Generalized Code Index Modulation and Spatial Modulation for High Rate and Energy-Efficient MIMO Systems on Rayleigh Block-Fading Channel

Abstract: In this article, a high data rate and energy-efficient multiple-input multiple-output transmission scheme is considered by combining two popular and rational modulation techniques: spatial modulation (SM) and code index modulation-spread spectrum (CIM-SS). Since in the considered system, called generalized CIM-SM (GCIM-SM), incoming information bits determine modulated symbols, activated transmit antenna indices as well as their corresponding spreading code indices, data bits are conveyed not only by modulated… Show more

“…Besides, since the orthogonal I and Q channels are used in QSM, ICI does not occur in a similar manner to SM. 21 In addition to all these, SM and QSM techniques are members of the index modulation (IM) family. In IM techniques, indices are embedded in the transmitted or received signals; usually little or no power is consumed; but additional information data are carried.…”

“…Through index modulation, more information is embedded in the indices of the main components of the communication system, such as the subcarriers, orthogonal codes, transmit antennas, etc. Thus, the index modulation based DCSK system can provide higher spectral efficiency, higher data transmission rate and less energy consumption [19][20][21][22][23]. Especially, in [24], the media-based modulation technique (MBM), which is one of the newest index modulation technology, is introduced to the DCSK system to provide a significant increase in both spectral efficiency and data rate through implementing index modulation with reconfigurable antennas.…”
