Spatial Correlation Network of Format in the Central Districts of a Megacity: The Case of Shanghai

Abstract: The format of different industries within a city is an essential part of a megacity’s development and reflects its central districts’ economic characteristics and development trends. This study takes two central districts in the megacity of Shanghai as its research object and explores the inter-spatial relationships among business format, as well as the mutual spatial relationships within the format network, using the quantitative and qualitative methods of case selection and spatial connectivity. Based on the… Show more

“…With the application of big data in urban and rural planning, some scholars have begun using big data such as POI (Point of Interest) 9 and night-time light data 10 to identify urban spatial structure 11 and explore the connection among urban centres 12 , moreover, some scholars have used big data to further refine the functions of urban centres and study the spatial distribution of employment and commercial centres from the city level 13 , 14 . POI data have been used to analyse the spatial structure and clustering characteristics of urban commercial centres 15 , 16 , and further analyse their spatial and temporal evolution characteristics 17 .…”

“…It is imperative to underline that the land space composition pattern of China's megacities differs greatly from that of foreign metropolises [27]. The proportion of industrial land in China's megacities exceeds that of other cities [28,29]. As megacities progress beyond the industrialization phase and transition into an era defined by a service-and innovation-driven economy, the preeminent theme in urban land development transmutes from "expansion" to "convergence and agglomeration" [30,31].…”

“…The existing studies mainly focus on spatial economics of APs [3], logistics efficiency [4,5], supply chain coordination [6], operation of cold-chain logistics [7], to name but a few. Based on the spatial economics theory, some scholars discussed the economic issues of logistics in the spatial dimension [8], and analyzed regional economic changes based on spatial interaction [9], highlighting the importance of the coupled operations between economy, resources and environment to the sustainability of urban development [10,11]. Some scholars evaluated how economic growth is influenced by the capacity of F&V production agglomeration and the spatial clustering of cold-chain logistics [12,13], and proved that spatial proximity, a key metric of agglomeration, is an important feature of cold-chain logistics.…”
