Spaced Armor Effects on Shaped Charge Jet Penetration

Abstract: Spaced armor has a simple structure and is easily produced with low cost. Previous authors calculated how a jet penetrates spaced armor; but, this study provides both a theoretical calculation method describing the interaction of a jet with spaced armor and experimental data which agree well with the theoretical values. The effects of several factors were explored using LS‐DYNA such as the distance between the first plate and the second plate as well as layer thickness on the interaction between the jet and th… Show more

“…In the numerical simulation, RDX (hexahydro-1, 3, 5-trinitro-1, 3, 5-triazine) was used as the main charge, and the detonation velocity was set to 8490 m/s. Liu et al [ 20 ] and Wu et al [ 21 ] both studied a theoretical method of calculating the interaction between the shaped energy jet and the target plate during penetration of the target plate through theoretical analysis and a jet penetration test. In the test, 8701 explosives and Comp-B explosives, with detonation velocities of 8390 m/s and 7980 m/s, respectively, were used as internal charges.…”
