Soya in Paraguay. An approach to the economic quantification. Period 1994-2016

Abstract

América del Sur se convirtió en la región donde se encuentran los principales productores de grano. El impulso de los graneros del sur, partió de una demanda internacional de Asia, acompañada de innovaciones en la producción agrícola, sobre todo, la biogenética. En Paraguay, la economía se sustentó históricamente en el sector agrícola-ganadero, siendo el cultivo de soja uno de los rubros más resaltantes del país, debido a su impacto en las cuentas nacionales. Este trabajo realiza una aproximación al impacto de la soja en la economía paraguaya a partir de la utilización de una matriz insumo producto del año 2004, atendiendo a que en ese año se introdujo la semilla genéticamente modificada como una de las innovaciones de los productores de soja. Análogamente, se recurrió a entrevistas semiestructuradas a expertos del rubro soja, de manera a ampliar la visión de las diferentes aristas del tema estudiado. Los principales resultados reflejan la importancia cuantitativa de la soja en el Producto Interno Bruto y la necesidad de contar con una mayor articulación de los diferentes actores del país.
