Sourgrass(Digitaria insularis, L. Mez ex Ekman)is a weed that requires high rates of glyphosate ((N-[phosphonomethyl]-glycine) forcontrol, verylittle of the herbicide applied isabsorbed by theleaves. Morphological and histological differences in leaves of glyphosate-resistant and glyphosate-susceptible plantsshould explain the contrast of variance between herbicide susceptibility. Leaves of different growth andphenological stages were collected and submitted to histological andelectron microscopy scanning analysis. Those plants were also submitted to a glyphosate dose-response curve analysis. The results suggest thatbiotypes exhibits differences infoliar structures that can influence the uptake and translocation of glyphosate. A thinparenchyma, lesser distance amongvascular bundles, and higher phloem sizewere found in resistant biotypes (differences close to 10%). Minor stomata number and higher epicuticular waxy deposition in stomata and leaf surface were found in resistant plants when leaves came from regrowth, leading to a possiblelesser herbicide absorption. Resistant plants showed absence of trichomes in late stages of development (64% less trichomes than susceptible plants). The higher concentration of trichomes in susceptible plants can be an absorption pathfor glyphosate getthrough the cuticle.Keywords: Absorption, herbicide resistance, parenchyma,trichomes A anatomia foliar de capim-amargoso influencia na resistência ao glyphosate? ResumoO capim-amargoso (Digitaria insularis, L. Mez ex Ekman) é uma plantadaninha que requer altas dosesde glifosato ((N-[fosfonometilo] glicina) para seu controle, sendo pouco do herbicida aplicado absorvido pelas folhas. Diferenças morfológicas e histológicas em folhas de biótipos resistentes e suscetíveis ao glifosato podem explicar a susceptibilidade diferencial ao herbicida. Folhas de diferentes estádios de crescimento de plantas foram coletadas e submetidas à análise histológica e de microscopia eletrônica de varredura. Essas plantas foram também submetidas a uma curva de dose-resposta ao glifosato. Os resultados sugerem diferenças foliares que podem influenciar a absorção e translocação de glyphosate. Um parênquima menos espesso, menores distâncias entre feixes vasculares, e maior tamanho de floema no biótipo resistente em relação ao biótipo suscetível foram observados (diferenças próximo a 10%). Menor número de estômatos e maior deposição de cera epicuticular em estômatos e superfície foliar nos biótipos resistentes foram encontradas quando a folha veio do rebrote, levando a uma possível menor absorção do herbicida. Em biótipos resistentes encontrou-se aausência de tricomas nos últimos estágios do desenvolvimento (64% a menos do que os tricomas plantas suscetíveis). A maior concentração de tricomas em plantas sensíveis, podem ser uma via de absorção para o glyphosate por entre a cutícula. Palavras-chave:Resistência a herbicidas, absorção, tricomas, parênquima

INTRODUÇÃOApesar de, originalmente, ser uma planta de sub-bosque, o cafeeiro foi melhorado por décadas, resultando em plantas mais produtivas a pleno sol (café solteiro) e, por isto, esta é a principal modalidade de cultivo no Brasil (DaMatta et al. 2007 A arborização pode beneficiar os cafezais, reduzindo a velocidade dos ventos e a amplitude térmica na cultura. É possível, ainda, que a diminuição na radiação incidente possa influenciar a população de plantas daninhas e diminuir a necessidade de seu controle. Objetivou-se, com este trabalho, avaliar a população e a distribuição de plantas daninhas, na cultura de café arábica consorciado com três cultivares de nogueira-macadâmia, seis anos após o plantio, em Dois Córregos (SP). Os tratamentos consistiram de esquema fatorial 3x3+1, ou seja, café consorciado com três cultivares de nogueiramacadâmia (HAES 816, IAC 4-20 e IAC 9-20) e três locais de amostragem das plantas daninhas no consórcio (na projeção da copa da nogueira-macadâmia, entre as projeções das copas da nogueira-macadâmia e na entrelinha solteira), além de um tratamento adicional (café solteiro). Foram avaliados a incidência e o controle de plantas daninhas, bem como a caracterização fitossociológica. No cultivo de café consorciado com nogueiramacadâmia, a ocorrência e o número de espécies de plantas daninhas foram menores que no cultivo de café solteiro. Na projeção da copa e entre as projeções das copas da nogueiramacadâmia, houve, em média, 82% de redução na ocorrência de plantas daninhas, em comparação ao café solteiro. A cultivar IAC 9-20, por apresentar copa mais alta e de maior diâmetro, foi mais eficiente na redução da ocorrência de plantas daninhas, no consórcio com café. This study aimed at assessing the weeds population and distribution, in arabica coffee intercropped with three macadamia cultivars, six years after planting, in Dois Córregos, São Paulo State, Brazil. Treatments consisted of a 3x3+1 factorial scheme, i.e., coffee intercropped with three macadamia cultivars (HAES 816, and three sampling positions of weeds in the intercropping (in the macadamia tree canopy projection, among the macadamia tree canopies projections and in the single rows), plus an additional treatment (sole coffee). The weeds incidence and control, as well as their phytosociological characterization, were evaluated. For coffee intercropped with macadamia, the weeds occurrence and number of species were smaller than for sole coffee. Chemical control is the main weed management system in coffee crop. Herbicides alternatives controlling grass weeds in infested coffee areas are limited, mainly due to the few options of registered herbicides. Thus, it is important to evaluate selective post-emergence herbicide to control these important weeds in coffee crop. The objective of this work was to evaluate the selectivity, efficiency and agronomic viability of the herbicide IHH 0513 (Quizalofope-P-ethyl 50g ai L-1) compared to Glyphosate on grass control in coffee crop. Two experiments were carried out in randomized blocks with four replications in the municipality of Lavras and Santana da Vargem (MG - Brazil) in a commercial coffee crop cultivar “Mundo Novo” and “Catuai” to evaluate the herbicide effectiveness in the crop rows. The experimental design was a randomized block design with seven treatments and four replications. Treatments consisted of IHH 0513 doses (Quizalofope-P-ethyl 25, 50, 75 and 100 g ai ha-1) compared to the standard GLI OVER (Glyphosate 480 g ia L-1) at the dose of 1680g ai ha-1 + Iharol at 0.5% v/v. Application occurred when sourgrass and goosegrass were at the beginning of development with up to 4 tillers (early vegetative stage) and in a second trial, at advanced stages of development (highly branched and /or flowering). Control assessments in percentage were performed at 7, 14, 21 and 28 days after application (DAA) of the treatments. A note of phytotoxicity was given by the EWRC scale (1964). The control of weeds was evaluated in each experimental plot using the visual notes scale of FRANS et al. (1986), where: 0% represents no control, and 100% total control of the species in question, compared to the population present in the non-weed control. In general, the dose of 1500 and 2000 mL per hectare of IHH 0513 (75 and 100 g ai ha-1) for the weeds at early vegetative stage presented the highest levels of controls (above 90%). The dose of 2000 mL per hectare (100 g ai ha-1) was efficient at 28 DAA to control more developed plants. No symptoms of phytotoxicity caused by the IHH 0513 product were detected at any dose tested. Quizalofop-P-ehtyl can be recommended for integrated weed management in coffee for sourgrass and goosegrass.
