Sorption of Rare-Earth Elements and Ac on UTEVA Resin in Different Acid Solutions

Abstract: The distribution of some rare-earth elements (REE) on UTEVA resin was determined from different concentrations of inorganic (HCl, HNO 3 , HClO 4 , HPF 6) and one organic acid-CCl 3 COOH. Low sorption of all REE in the range of 1M-5M HNO 3 was observed. In more concentrated HNO 3 , a rapid increase of the distribution coefficients (K d) was noticed with an increase in the atomic number of the lanthanides as well as in Y and Sc. The system UTEVA-CCl 3 COOH showed a higher selectivity for Eu(III). Chromatographic… Show more

“…Separation of 225 Ac from 225 Ra is then achieved with cation-exchange chromatography, which is loaded in 0.1 M HNO 3 , 225 Ra eluted with 1.2 M HNO 3 , and finally 225 Ac eluted with 8 M HNO 3 . Recently, there have been a number of studies attempting to develop simple and robust purification systems for 225 Ac, many of which employ either UTEVA or DGA, among other resins. …”

“…Liquid chromatography for the separation of elements is currently used in radiochemistry for elemental and isotopic analyses protocols. The protocols on extraction chromatographic resins are widely implemented on radioactive samples for purified actinides or others elements like lanthanides [78][79][80][81][82][83]. Common methods for actinide matrix removal use chromatographic resin beds that are several milliliters in volume.…”
