“…Relationships between the P sorption capacity derived from Langmuir isotherm (X m ) and the oxalate extractable Al + Fe content (Al ox + Fe ox ) of Ap horizons for Québec soils grouped according to their pedogenesis (A) or their pedogenesis and soil pH reaction (B). Data from , Simard et al (1991) and Laverdière and Karam (1984). (**, *** significant at α = 0.01 and 0.001, respectively.…”

“…In Québec, the Mehlich-III extractant was also found to underestimate the plant-available P content for high clay content soils (Tran and Giroux 1985;Simard et al 1991). This , Simard et al (1991) and Karam and Laverdière (1984). y When excluding one statistical outlier from the calculation.…”

“…In order to check whether the P W filtrate was contaminated with fine particles that may enhance P W values in fine-textured soils (Koopmans et al 2005), results of the < 2.5 µm filtration after adding 0.5 M NaCl (Sissingh 1971) were related to those of the < 0.45 µm filtration after adding the salt or not. The Langmuir b was assessed using the linearized Langmuir equation (Laverdière and Karam 1984) on 50 soil samples varying in texture, STP and genesis (14 podzolized and 36 gleyed soils). Briefly, 0.5 g of soil was equilibrated for 48 h in 50 mL centrifuge tubes using a soil:solution ratio of 1:30 (wt/vol) and P concentrations of 0, 10, 20, 40 and 60 mg P L -1 in 0.01 M CaCl 2 .…”

“…Several studies showed that soil texture, soil pH, soil genesis as related to mineralogy, Fe and Al oxyhydroxides, soil organic matter accumulation, as well as depth of water table could influence soil P sorption capacity, and quality of runoff and drainage water (Juo and Ellis 1968;Laverdière and Karam 1984;Giroux and Tran 1985;Breeuwsma and Silva 1992;Breeuwsma and Reijerink 1993;Simard et al 1994Simard et al , 2000Sharpley 1995;Sims et al 1998;Djodjic et al 1999;Cox and Hendricks 2000;Leclerc et al 2001). A useful environmental soil test P (STP) for assessing P accumulation should extract all or a representative amount of the P fraction in soils that is susceptible to surface runoff, leaching, or dissolution from eroded sediments, and be rapid, accurate, inexpensive and reliable (Moore et al 1998).…”
