Two new species of trichostrongylid parasites of a mountain gorilla in Uganda are described. Paralibyostrongylus kalinae n. sp. is characterised by a short dorsal ray, a dorsal oesophageal tooth and two median longitudinal ridges in the vulvar region. The species is more closely related to leporid parasites than to P. hebrenicutus, another species known from the gorilla. A "transfuge" phenomenon, i.e. transfer to a new host without speciation is suggested. Hyostrongylus kigeziensis n. sp. has several specific morphological characteristics and in particular a synlophe with many strong ridges, rays 4 and 5 divergent at the apex, and the dorsal ray with two branches. Hyostrongylus appears to be an Ethiopian genus which has radiated in many archaic mammals.

RÉSUMÉ. Description des stades larvaires et des immatures de Neoheligmonella dossoi et de N. tra nieri (Nippostrongylinae), coparasites d' Uranomijs ruddi en Afrique.Les stades larvaires libres n'ont pu être attribués à l'une ou l'autre espèce et les mâles n'ont pu être distingués des femelles.Chez les stades larvaires parasites, les mâles se distinguent des femelles à partir de J2 après l'infestation.A On two Trichostrongyloid Nematodes parasitic in an african Murid. II -Chronology of their cycles, description of larval and immature forms.SUMMARY. Larval and immature forms in Neoheligmonella dossoi and N. tranieri (Nippostron gylinae) coparasites of Uranomys ruddi from Africa are described. The free larval stages of both species cannot be distinguished one from the other. L1, L2 and L3 are identified by their size and by shape and tail length.In the parasitic larval stages the males are distinguished from females as from the second day after infestation: the female genital primordium is displaced to the caudal extremity in a very significant way.The L4 can be separated from L3 by the presence of a cephalic vesicle and a synlophe ; the immature specimens from L4 due to the presence of a new cephalic vesicle and the synlophe of adult.A specific name can be given to those larvae from day 3 after the infestation: plotting the length of the genital primordium in relation to total body length shows two distinct clouds repre senting a large and a small species. Similar clouds were obtained for day 4 to 7 post-infection. By day 6, the immature forms of the small species can be identified by the synlophe as dossoi and those of the large species as tranieri.The larval development of N. dossoi is slower than that of N. tranieri.

Par voie cutanée, elles arrivent dans les poumons à H8, très vraisemblablement par la voie lymphatique et le coeur droit, puis parviennent dans l'estomac dès J2. Cependant la possibilité d 'une migration directe par les lymphatiques du mésentère et par tra versée de la paroi digestive ne peut être exclue car quelques larves ont été trouvées dans le mésentère péristomacal.Par voie buccale, les L3 arrivent directement dans l'estomac; à H24, elles logent dans la lumière des cryptes de la muqueuse gastrique. La même localisation est constatée à J3 pour les larves inoculées par voie cutanée. A J5, quel que soit le mode d 'infesta tion, les larves se trouvent à leur place définitive, enrobées dans le mucus recouvrant la surface de l'estomac où s'effectue la 3e mue (L3-L4), puis la 4e mue (L4-Ad) qui a lieu à J19. Les oeufs appa raissent à J28.En dehors des granulomes inflammatoires des poumons ou du mésentère, qui sont constatés de H24 à J3, le Nématode ne paraît déterminer aucune lésion.Le genre Paralibyostrongylus est un des plus primitifs de la lignée Libyostrongylinae-Cooperiinae, la double possibilité dans les voies d 'infestation paraît avoir permis la transition entre les cycles pri mitifs par voie cutanée et les cycles plus spécialisés par voie orale, ceux-ci ayant rendu possible la réussite évolutive du groupe chez les grands Herbivores. Summary: Life cycle of Paralibyostrongylus hebrenicutus (Nematoda: Trichostrongylidae).Paralibyostrongylus hebrenicutus accomplishes its life cycle spon taneously in captive Atherurus africanus, its natural host, and in experimentally infected guinea pigs and rabbits. Morphogenesis and larval morphology were studied in the guinea pig and des cribed herein.Host infection were achieved either by subcutaneous or by oral inoculation. The entsheathed infective larvae moult soon after pene tration in the vertebrate host.Following subcutaneous inoculation, they reach the lungs very probably through the lymphatic vessels and the right heart at H8, and the stomach as soon as D2. However, a possible direct migra tion by the mesenteric lymphatic vessels and crossing of the diges tive wall cannot be excluded as a few larvae were found in the peristomachal mesentery.Following ingestion, L3 larvae reached the stomach directly. 24 hours post-ingestion, they were localized deep inside the gas tric mucosa crypts lumen. The same larval localization was observed at D3 after a subcutaneous inoculation. At D5, regardless of the inoculation route, larvae reached their definitive position, embedded in the gastric mucosa mucus lining, where they underwent the 3rd moulting (L3-L4) followed by the 4th moulting (L4-Ad) at D19.
