Some Notes on the Specificity of Anti‐A1 Reagents

Abstract: Abstract. The agglutinability of red blood cells of A1, A2, A3, Ax and cis‐AB phenotypes by several anti‐A1 reagents was quantitatively evaluated and found to correlate with the number of A antigenic sites/cell determined by using 125I‐labelled IgG anti‐A. Moreover, anti‐A1 sera could be absorbed by some A2 red blood cells and were inhibited by concentrated saliva from A2 secretor individuals. The significance of these findings is discussed in the light of recent data from the literature.
