Solventless processing of modified poly(vinyl fluoride) and its properties

Abstract: synopsisThe properties of fluorocarbon plastics have made them very desirable for numerous new applications. The DALVOR X-6500 series of fluoropolymers can be easily fabricated without the use of solvents. General compound information, including pigmentation, lubrication, and rheology data, is presented as well as chemical resistance, weathering, and electrical data. Processing parameters for producing both flat and blown fdms are given, along with recommended types of equipment. Data are presented on fluid be… Show more

“…It also presents excellent weather stability and is highly transparent to radiation between the ultraviolet and near-infrared regions [ 67 , 68 ]. However, the low thermal stability of PVF makes it difficult to process by traditional processing methods, and so, plasticizers and stabilizers are usually added [ 69 , 70 ]. The free radical polymerization of VDF results in the partially fluorinated PVDF polymer.…”

“…Products of the Diamond Shamrock Corporation, the DALVOR X-6500 series of resins [6,7] , represented the only kind of PVF that can be easily fabricated by melt-blowing technology, but the feasibility was based on modification of PVF and detailed technical data has never been reported. Therefore, an increase in thermal stability of melt during thermoplastic processing of PVF is an essential aspect, which can positively influence the blowing technology of PVF films.…”

“…As a result, the melt processing of PVF becomes quite difficult, and the PVF film manufacture has been limited to solvent-extruded method, which requires high boiling point solvents as processing aids. 3 By far, a great deal of researches on the production and properties of PVF films have been carried out, but only Du Pont Co. has PVF film products with the brand of TEDLAR. 4 The difficulties in the film process lead to a limitation in the production and applications of PVF films.…”
