Solution of the Dirac Equation for Strong External Fields

Abstract: emission was assumed, and a universal 1-nsec lifetime was taken to allow us to estimate the fraction of the metastable emitters which decayed within the distance viewed by our X-ray detector. We thus have clear and direct experimental evidence that both two-and three-e,lectron chlorine systems a r e produced which have lifetimes in the nanosecond region and which de-excite at least partially by KCY X-ray emission. We further find that an appreciable fraction (about 60%) of our metastable X-ray emitters belong … Show more

“…It is worth noting that an overcritical nucleus (Z ≥ Z cr ) can be formed for example in the collision of two heavy nuclei [303,316,314,315,331,332,333,334]. To observe the emission of positrons originated from pair production occurring near to an overcritical nucleus temporally formed by two nuclei, the following necessary conditions have to be full filled: (i) the atomic number of an overcritical nucleus is larger than Z cr = 173; (ii) the lifetime of the overcritical nucleus must be much longer than the characteristic time ( /m e c 2 ) of pair production; (iii) the inner shells (K-shell) of the overcritical nucleus should be unoccupied.…”

“…Special attention for the existence of critical electric fields and the possible condition for electron- Greiner [7]. They analyzed the specific pair creation process of an electron-positron pair around both a point-like and extended bare nucleus by direct integration of Dirac equation.…”

“…There is a well defined method of computation for processes in strong Coulomb fields. [18] For the high energy limit of QCD, the only quantity which can characterize strong fields is 1/α S . If a field has an intrinsic strength of order 1/g, then the typical occupation number of a gluonic state is < a † a >∼ 1/α S .…”
