Soluble sugars and germination of Annona emarginata (Schltdl.) H. Rainer seeds submitted to immersion in GA3 up to different water contents

Abstract: -The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of different water contents achieved by Annona emarginata (Schltdl.) H. Rainer seeds during immersion in GA 3 solutions, in variation of soluble sugars levels and germination. Seeds with 10% of initial water content were submitted to imbibition in GA 3 solutions with concentrations of 0; 250; 500; 750 and 1000 mg L -1 and when they reached the water content of 15%, 20%, 25%, 30% and 35%, the quantification of soluble sugars levels and germination test wer… Show more

“…The present study confirms the importance of generating a seed imbibition curve to determine the duration of treatments involving seed immersion in aqueous solutions (Braga et al 2010;Gimenez et al 2014a;b). It is also important to understand the metabolic processes occurring at different seed water contents until the end of imbibition to avoid wrongfully interpreting the results.…”

“…As proposed by [38], seed water intake is triphasic in nature and can be divided into phases I, II, and III. The triphasic pattern of seed water uptake observed in this study has been reported by many authors, for example, Nicotiana tabacum [39], Zea mays [40], and Annona emarginata [41]. In priming, determination of seed imbibition curves helped in setting the times of invigoration treatments, which were 18 h (B. speciosus), 20 h (Co. erythrophyllum), 20 h (E. caffra), 24 h (P. sativum), and 24 h (Cu.…”

“…Therefore, germination is slow and uneven . In this context, research has been conducted over time with the use of plant growth regulators in order to promote germination in species of the family Annonaceae used as crown or rootstock Gimenez et al, 2014). For atemoya seeds, Braga et al (2010) obtained the highest germination percentage (95.4%) using a concentration of 329 mg.L -1 of GA 4+7 + N-(phenylmethyl)-aminopurine.…”
