Soluble SIGLEC5: A New Prognosis Marker in Colorectal Cancer Patients

Abstract: Colorectal cancer (CRC) is the second most deadly and third most commonly diagnosed cancer worldwide. There is significant heterogeneity among patients with CRC, which hinders the search for a standard approach for the detection of this disease. Therefore, the identification of robust prognostic markers for patients with CRC represents an urgent clinical need. In search of such biomarkers, a total of 114 patients with colorectal cancer and 67 healthy participants were studied. Soluble SIGLEC5 (sSIGLEC5) levels… Show more

“…We found no direct link between IL12A/B with ovarian cancer, although pre-activation with IL-12 in ovarian cancer cell lines is shown to improve the efficacy of natural killer cell immunotherapy [ 41 ]. Finally, SIGLEC5 is suggested as a prognostic marker for colorectal cancer [ 42 ] but we found no previously published association with ovarian cancer.…”

“…This prospective patient cohort had a short follow-up time that did not allow to monitor enough metastatic events. Nonetheless, since sSIGLEC5 levels have been recently associated with disease prognosis in CRC [ 22 ], the positive correlation found between THC counts and sSIGLEC5 levels indicates a potential correlation between THC numbers in circulation and patient prognosis in CRC.…”

Nonetheless, since sSIGLEC5 levels have been recently associated with disease prognosis in CRC [22], the positive correlation found between THC counts and sSIGLEC5 levels indicates a potential correlation between THC numbers in circulation and patient prognosis in CRC. Finally, considering the previously addressed relationship between immune evasion properties in THCs and SIGLEC5, we moved on to analyse the correlation between soluble SIGLEC5 (sSIGLEC5) levels and THC counts in circulation.…”

“…In our study, we found that expression of both Siglec-3 (CD33) and Siglec-5 (CD170) increased after corticosteroid treatment. These two receptors have recently been described as having immune checkpoint roles and usefulness as prognosis markers in different contexts [ 53 , 54 , 55 , 56 ]. Concerning lymphoid cells, we want to highlight the B7H5 (VISTA) increment in NK, CD8 + and CD4 + cells after corticosteroid treatment.…”
