Solidifying dust suppressant based on modified chitosan and experimental study on its dust suppression performance

Abstract: In view of the fugitive dusts caused by wind disturbance and material handling in coal bunkers, surface plants, and open-air coal stocking yards of coal businesses, the solidifying dust suppressant based on modified chitosan is synthesized and prepared through the chemical modification of-NH 2 with chitosan as a raw material and-NH 2 was replaced by-CH 2 CH(OH)CH 2 N þ (CH 3)CI À through the technique of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy. According to viscosity experiment results, the viscosity of the mo… Show more

“…Notwithstanding that there is a wide variety of soil stabilizing materials that facilitates soil strengthening and dust suppression, there is a need for alternatives with enhanced effectiveness and less T environmental impact. Within last two decades, extensive attention has been paid to use of biocompatible and bio-based products for dust suppression, including synthetic hydrogels, bio-polymers, and biologically mediated mineral precipitation (Bang et al, 2009;Chen et al, 2015;Kavazanjian et al, 2009;Liu et al, 2018;Meyer et al, 2011). Synthetic hydrogels and bio-polymers are attractive because of their water retaining ability and because their application typically does not require compaction (Chang et al, 2015c), which make them compatible with establishment of vegetation on the treated surface.…”

“…These sensitivity indexes play a very important role in outburst risk prevention. In China, after years of application and verification, it is found that the outburst risk prediction index and its critical value are inconsistent with the actual outburst risk of the mine, which is the phenomenon of 'outburst occurrence with low index value' (Liu et al, 2018;Nandi and Walker, 1975;Yang et al, 2018). Cheng et al (2016) established the relationship between the gas desorption index drill cuttings Dh 2 and gas pressure in coal seams; Sun and Sun (2000) conducted a similar simulation study on the K 1 index in the laboratory and analyzed the results using a multiple regression method.…”

“…Overall, the chemical dust suppressant is highly favored considering its dust suppression effect, economic viability and environmental-friendliness, and therefore has a vast potential for future development [25][26][27][28][29][30]. The chemical dust suppressant functions effectively on open dust sources, and therefore this technology has been widely applied to those enterprises with a major generation of coal dust, such as railroad transportation departments, dumping sites and thermal power plants [31][32][33][34][35][36]. In recent years, the domestic and foreign research on chemical dust suppressant is shifting its focus to enhancing recyclability, environmental-friendliness, and efficiency [37][38][39][40][41][42].…”
