Solid Pseudopapillary Tumor of the Pancreas: A Single-center Experience and Review of the Literature

Abstract: Abstract. Background: Solid pseudopapillary tumors (SPTs) of the pancreas are a rare occurrence, not exceeding 1-2% of all exocrine pancreatic tumors. SPT Solid pseudopapillary tumor (SPT) of the pancreas is a rare pathologic entity first described by V.K. Frantz in 1959 (1). Most SPTs of pancreas have been described as benign in nature, although 10-15% of SPT of pancreas shows malignant behavior and metastases (2). SPT of pancreas is a rare neoplasm that accounts for less than 2% of exocrine 501

“…Liver metastases (n=2) were identified after 1 year and then 5 years after resection; 5- and 10-year disease-free survival rate was 96.5% and 89.6% respectively [ 10 ]. Similarly, Antoniou et al described 5 cases of females with Franz tumor treated with radical pancreatectomy who continue to be under observation and do not present with symptoms of locally recurrent disease [ 11 ].…”

“…These were previously referred to using a variety of descriptive and eponymous names, before official nomenclature was proposed by the World Health Organization in 1996 and its classification as a borderline malignant tumor of the exocrine pancreas 4567. Over the past two decades, there has been an increasing frequency of cases of these tumors diagnosed and reported in the literature partly due to the widespread use of cross sectional imaging and better knowledge of the condition 78. SPPN have been well characterized as a tumor predominantly seen in young females in the second and third decades of life 123789.…”

“…К сожалению, доказательных данных об этиологии, гистогенезе и факторам риска развития СППО ПЖЖ нет. Существуют предположения, что она развивается из дериватов потоковых [10,11], ацинарных [2,11] или колониеобразующих зародышевых клеток и из производных нервной пластинки. Кроме того, в литературе имеются описания экстраорганного развития СППО ПЖЖ из эктопированной ткани железы -в сальнике, брыжейке толстой кишки, печени [11].…”
