Solid Phase Synthesis of N-Alkyl-bis-o-aminobenzamides for Metal Ion Sensing Based on a Fluorescent Dansyl Platform

Abstract: In this paper, we report the synthesis on Merrifield's resin of alkyl-bis-o-aminobenzamides labeled with a fluorescent dansyl group for use in metal ion recognition. The influence of alkyl groups with different long chains (n = 1, 2, 4, 6) on the spectral fluorescence characteristics was studied. The sensing properties of the beads were evaluated by packing the resins into a flow-through cell for use in a FIA (flow injection analysis)format. Results demonstrated that for those materials with a longer alkyl cha… Show more

“…With Li + and Na + there is a decrease in fluorescence intensity, whereas with K + a notorious increase in fluorescence intensity was shown, see Figure 6. It has been described that the ionic radii produces a higher rigidity in the complex and activates the PET mechanism, which increases fluorescence intensity 16,17. On the other hand, data showed the influence of the bidentate amine on fluorescence intensity when coordination of the metal occurred, as seen in Figure 7.…”

“…However, it should be mentioned here, for all these reported systems, almost all research have been performed in the solution state. Immobilizing fluorescent PET switches/sensors into solid state, which can fabricate them into device and may endow the resulting materials with interesting stimuli‐responsive properties, has remained a big challenge as their identical properties in solution usually cannot be retained.…”
