Solid-Contact Ion-Selective Electrodes for Histamine Determination

Abstract: Solid-contact ion-selective electrodes for histamine (HA) determination were fabricated and studied. Gold wire (0.5 mm diameter) was coated with poly(3,4-ethlenedioxythiophene) doped with poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) as a solid conductive layer. The polyvinyl chloride matrix embedded with 5,10,15,20-tetraphenyl(porphyrinato)iron(iii) chloride as an ionophore, 2-nitrophenyloctyl ether as a plasticizer and potassium tetrakis(p-chlorophenyl) borate as an ion exchanger was used to cover the PEDOT:PSS layer a… Show more

“…As such, keeping low potentiometric noise rates is key to ensuring accurate measurements and percentage recovery values close to 100%. Both liquid membrane and all-solid-state ion-selective electrodes can be applied to the detection of a wide range of charged compounds, from cations and anions, up to small molecules such as histamines [39], and even pharmaceuticals like salbutamol [40]. To date, there are over 100 different ionic species that can be analysed using ion-selective electrodes, including potentially toxic compounds, such as heavy metals and oxyanions.…”

“…This makes them easier to store and transport, which is especially important for field measurements. [11,12]. The electrodes are easy to obtain in small sizes and in any shape.…”
