Solar photovoltaic/thermal-thermoelectric generator performance review

Abstract: Solar photovoltaic (PV) cells are currently limited by the temperature factor that causes the drop of efficiency when the module temperature rises. Many approaches were made to solve the issue so that the performance of the solar cell is improved including the integration of thermoelectric generator (TEG) hybrid. The objective of these improvements is to increase the temperature coefficient that will enhance the efficiency of the solar cells. Some approach may produce other benefits like thermal energy or buil… Show more

“…The efficiency of the solar module also ascends based on the magnitude of thermal energy abstracted from the surface area of the module. From the difference in TEG between the hot and cold sides, the PV panel can reach 17% of efficiency with a contribution of 3% from TEG (Zulakmal et al, 2019).…”

“…Although numerous studies have implemented PV-T solar collectors, the use of thermoelectric generators (TEG) for electric power production from solar radiation has not been so popular until recently (Zulakmal et al, 2019). Lately, however, there have been increasing attempts in thermovoltaic conversion of PV waste heat using TEG modules com- Ruzaimi et al (2020), to provide optimum heat source to TEG array, the modules must be applied where the temperature on the PV array is distributed evenly at all the times.…”
