Solar hydrogen generation over CdS incorporated in Ti-MCM-48 mesoporous materials under visible light illumination

Abstract: MCM-48 cubic mesoporous materials containing CdS and spatially isolated titania nanoclusters were prepared in this study. Powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), nitrogen adsorption isotherm, transmission electron microscopy (TEM), atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS), UV-Visible diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) studies were employed for the characterization of the CdS containing Ti-MCM-48 mesoporous materials. In the current stud… Show more

“…Regarding an appropriate band gaps, another group of semiconductors with great application potential in photocatalytic H 2 generation are transition metal chalcogenides. Recently, CdS is one of the most studied materials [54,55,[137][138][139][140]; however, the toxic effects due to potential leaching of Cd 2+ have to be strongly considered, followed by others (MoS 2 , ZnS, ZnSe, CdSe) indicated in Figure 12, as mentioned in part related to water treatment [127].…”

“…Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectra of Eu 52 Ni 56− x Cd x /CdS‐3 under visible‐light irradiation were examined to elucidate the photoinduced electron injection process. Before irradiation, the Eu 52 Ni 56− x Cd x /CdS‐3 gave an intense signal at 1.922, which was attributed to the paramagnetic defect of CdS (Figure a) . An EPR signal with g of 2.003 was observed upon 30 min of irradiation, which is assigned to the paramagnetic Eu 2+ species .…”

“…The main peaks of this mesoporous between 2θ = 2°-3° can be seen clearly. The sharp peak at 2θ = 2.9° demonstrates the d211 diffraction of the MCM-48 cubic phase and peak at 2θ = 3.4° is related to the d220 re ection [15,16] and at 6.16°, 15.88°, 26.08°, and 30.7°c…”
