Emerging issues of occupational safety and health (OSH) in floating solar photovoltaic projects (FSPV) have rarely been addressed to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The current scoping review has been planned to demonstrate OSH issues experienced by the workers engaged in the installation and maintenance of FSPV projects and existing ergonomics design interventions in the solar photovoltaic industry with a focus on the FSPV sector. Methods: A literature review was conducted from four major electronic databases (Science Direct, Google Scholar, Web of Science, and Scopus) using predefined keywords and following the PRISMA framework for the period 1965-2020. A total of 49 studies under five headings, namely a) overview of key reasons for the emergence of floating solar photovoltaic projects, b) occupational risks of workers engaged in the solar PV industry/FSPV sector, c) occupational risks in workplaces/occupations similar to floating solar photovoltaics projects, d) availability of training modules and occupational standards, and e) design interventions/approaches in the solar PV industry/floating photovoltaics sector were analyzed. Results: It emerged that workers are exposed to multifarious occupational risk factors such as heat, solar radiation, ergonomic risks, electrocution, fire, hazardous substances, adverse weather conditions, and psychosocial factors. These risks have not been adequately addressed with required interventions in the FSPV sector. Intervention opportunities include designing innovative tools, lowering of loads, redesigning workplace layouts, introducing job aids, automation, task rotation, job enlargement, design of training modules, OSH standards and changes in work organization/shift, etc. Conclusion:This review is a first-of-its-kind effort to highlight the contextual risk factors in the emerging FSPV sector and the need for addressing them through ergonomics design interventions for successfully achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

Özet Yüksek sıcaklıklarda çalışan işçiler için en önemli sorunlardan birisi de ısı stresinin ortaya koyduğu sıvı elektrolit dengesizlikleridir. Yüksek ısı, dehidratasyon gibi etkiler; iş kazaları, işçi performansı ve meslek hastalıklarıyla yakından ilişkilidir. Çeşitli iş kollarında yapılan araştırmalar, işçilerin çalışma esnasında yeteri kadar sıvı almadığını ortaya koymaktadır. Özellikle yüksek mesleki ısıya maruz kalan ve fiziksel açıdan ağır işlerde çalışan işçilerin sağlık ve güvenlikleri risk altındadır. Araştırmalar; yeterli, dengeli ve uygun sıvı alımının işçi sağlığı, güvenliği ve iş verimliliği üzerinde olumlu etkilere sahip olduğunu göstermektedir. Yeterli sıvı alımı iş kazalarının ve meslek hastalıklarının azaltılmasında önemli bir faktör olabilir. Tüketilen sıvının sıklığı ve miktarı kadar türü de önem arz etmektedir. Bununla birlikte sıvı ihtiyacının karşılanmasında en temel besin maddesinin su olduğu unutulmamalıdır. Bu çalışmada ısı stresinin oluşturduğu sıvı elektrolit dengesizliklerinin iş sağlığı ve güvenliği üzerine etkileri incelenmiştir. Sonuç olarak iş kazalarının ve meslek hastalıklarının azaltılması ve iş verimliliğin artırılması için işçi beslenmesinin düzenlenmesi gerekir. Bu düzenlenme çalışma koşullarına göre uzman kişilerce yapılmalıdır.

Occupational health and safety (OHS) is a systemic and multidisciplinary activity for anticipating, recognizing, evaluating and controlling the hazards that may impair the health of workers. Risk assessment of hazards plays a critical role in the OHS. However, due to the vagueness and uncertainty of information, it is difficult for experts to express their opinions with crisp numbers in the risk assessment process. In this paper, we present a new OHS model, which integrates bipolar fuzzy sets (BFSs) and multi-attributive border approximation area comparison (MABAC) method, for the risk assessment of occupational hazards. Specifically, the BFSs are utilized to deal with the vague and uncertain assessment information of hazards provided by experts and the MABAC method is used to determine the risk ranking of hazards. Moreover, we extend the stepwise weight assessment ratio analysis (SWARA) method with BFSs to obtain the weights of risk criteria. Finally, the occupational hazard risk assessment example on construction sites is conducted and a comparative analysis is performed to verify the effectiveness and availability of our proposed OHS model. The results show that the new integrated model provides a more effective and practical method for the risk prioritization of occupational hazards in OHS.
