Sol-gel synthesis and structure of La2O3-CoO-SiO2 powders

Abstract: LaCoO3 powders are studied because they exhibit interesting electrical, magnetic and catalytic properties. In this paper, new synthesized La2O3-CoO-SiO2 powders with different quantity of silica were prepared via solgel method in aqua media, starting from metal nitrates with different chelating agents. The relation between the reaction in solution, crystallization pathway and morphology were discussed. In LaCoO3-SiO2 powders, depending on the content of SiO2 and the treatment temperature (… Show more

“…A peak at 508 cm −1 is ascribed to the Co–O bond as reported by Sarker and Razzaque [ 28 ], and Worayingyong et al [ 30 ]. The La–O bond as confirmed by Radev et al [ 31 ], corresponds to the peak at 410 cm −1 . The Raman spectra shown in Figure 1 c illustrates typical characteristics of LaCoO 3 at 478 cm −1 , confirming the formation of La–O [ 32 ].…”

“…Nevertheless, it has been demonstrated that its microstructure, catalytic performance, and electronic and ionic conductivity depend strongly on the preparation method, which ultimately determines its potential applications [22]. For example, developing of reliable methods for obtaining nanosized LaCoO 3 powders with large specific surface area to be used as electrocatalysts is an active research field nowadays [23].…”

“…The characteristic vibration peaks for stretching N = O also appear at 1649, 1646, and 1640 cm -1 respectively in black powder samples 60, 70, and 80 ºC which were previously shifted at wave number 1634 cm -1 in the forming material (Lanthanum Nitrate Hexahydrate). Whereas La-O chemical bonding group based on literature shows the wavenumber 415-423 cm -1 (Radev et al, 2008). However, Figure 12 only covers the range of 500-4000 cm -1 .…”
