Soiling Losses: A Barrier for India’s Energy Security Dependency from Photovoltaic Power

Abstract: Worldwide photovoltaic power generation is affected by deposited dust on photovoltaic (PV) systems, which creates soiling losses. In this work, factors that have a detrimental influence on dust deposition and an impact on PV systems performance were reviewed. The different ways that dust deposition can be a barrier for India’s energy security plan involving PV were also discussed. Different available cleaning techniques were also introduced. The nature, size, and morphology of dust particles vary with geograph… Show more

“…Besides, Perovskite integrated into a building in northern latitude place where snow and rain are the most common phenomenon that should be considered before integration [255,256]. In the case of a hot climate and dust environment, how this technology will perform can be a significant investigating area before building integration [257][258][259][260][261][262][263] that must be a vital fact when considering PSC integration in BIPV.…”

“…The work of reference [24] shows the impact of dust settlement on the electrical, optical, and thermal characteristics of PV modules. Dust deposited on a cell for a long period of time can lead to the appearance of a hot spot, which can be detected even with the dust on it due to the heating of the whole cell [25][26][27]. The most widespread way to detect these hot spots is using infrared or radiometric cameras [28].…”

“…These characteristic curves are unimodal in uniform conditions, whereas they are multimodal in non-uniform conditions [44]. Non-uniform conditions, such as irradiance variance, can be exacerbated by the sun's displacement during the day, soiling, and shadowing [45]- [48]. Nearby buildings, trees, and objects cause the Partial Shading Condition (PSC).…”
