Soil water distribution and extraction by 'Tommy Atkins' mango(Mangifera indica L.) trees under different irrigation regimes

Abstract: The objective of this study was to determine the water distribution and extraction by mango variety 'Tommy Atkins' under different irrigation regimes. The treatments were: 1-Irrigation supplying 100% of ETc from flowering to fruit harvest; 2-50% of ETc from beginning of flowering to the beginning of the expansion of fruit and 100% of ETc to physiological maturity; 3-100% ETc from the onset of flowering to the beginning of fruit growth, 50% from the beginning of expansion to the start of physiological maturatio… Show more

“…To estimate the soil moisture with TDR, calibration equation was used according to SANTOS & MARTINEZ (2013). Obtaining the relationship between the dielectric constant values read by TDR and soil water content (θ) was performed with samples deformed in accordance with and was presented on Table 4.…”

“…The daily irrigation time used for each treatment was used according to COTRIM et al (2011), SANTOS et al (2014a, NEVES et al (2013) and SANTOS & MARTINEZ (2013), considering 0.90 as the application efficiency. These determinations were performed using IRRIMANGA software, computational tool to obtain evapotranspiration and calculation of irrigation time for mango crop management (SANTOS, 2012).…”

“…Soil water conditions change when using water-deficit strategies; consequently, water conditions of plants, gas exchanges, and leaf temperature are also altered. These variables influence growth, developing, and yielding (Santos and Martinez, 2013). There is some research in the literature on the use of water-deficit strategies in mango trees grown in semi-arid regions of Brazil and how it relates to gas exchanges (Santos et al, 2016b;2016c;Santos and Martinez, 2013), to root distribution (Santos et al, 2014a), to water uptake (Santos and Martinez, 2013), to flower induction (Faria et al, 2016a), and to leaf nutrient content (Faria et al, 2016b).…”
