Software and Hardware Platform Design for Open-CNC System

Abstract: At present, the ability to generate the tools processing path is commonplace in CAD/CAM systems, but the technology used for NC programming is still based on G, M code. According to all questions of the CNC system, it is proposed a new idea that we use one of the UG modules UG GRIP to generate the tools processing coordinates to replace the G, M code program. And we make use of kernel platform as a middleware providing bridges between the software modules on upper-computer and the CNC machine by using the proc… Show more

“…The difference between CNC machine tools and ordinary machine tools lies in the working sequence of NC machine tools: according to the requirements of part processing, CNC language is used to write processing sequences and parameter programs. After the program is analyzed and processed by the CNC device, the execution instructions are sent to the servo system to actuate the motion of the machine tool [1]. Programming controlled movement of the main spindle and worktable completes the processing that does not exist in ordinary machine tools.…”

“…The design of an automated cutting table is a multidisciplinary project that involves computing, electronic and electromechanical concepts, among other areas. In the country, some work has been done on the design of machine tools [1,2], such as lathes, milling machines and cutting tables, an example of them is the study carried out by the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana of Medellín, where an XYZ Cartesian table was developed to study the kinematics, dynamics and control problems associated with automated industrial equipment [3]. These works, although interesting, have been limited to a functional and robust design, without going too deeply into the key aspects associated with the work of a machine tool.…”

“…In the case of machine tools and robots, a servo loop update time lower than 1 ms is required. 6,7 Several CNC systems are designed using sequential microprocessors or personal computer (PC)-based systems, and some using a combination of PC and digital signal processor (DSP) for implementing curve interpolation techniques such as curve interpolation and tracking control, 8 NURBS interpolation, 9 and off-line algorithm for the feed rate scheduling constrained by chord tolerance, acceleration, and jerk limitations. 10 In order to enhance the capabilities and performance of sequential controllers, several parallel architectures have been proposed.…”
