Soft theorems in maximally supersymmetric theories

Abstract: In this paper we study the supersymmetric generalization of the new soft theorem which was proposed by Cachazo and Strominger recently. At tree level, we prove the validity of the super soft theorems in both N = 4 superYang-Mills theory and N = 8 supergravity using super-BCFW recursion relations. We verify these theorems exactly by showing some examples.

“…A complete classification of all possible soft theorems at various orders of the soft expansion has not appeared, although some discussion of it exists [79,80]. New soft theorems at various orders have recently been discovered in nonabelian gauge theories [20,77,81,82], supersymmetric theories [83][84][85], nonlinear sigma models [86], string theories [76,[87][88][89][90][91][92][93], and in other contexts [94][95][96][97][98]. Interesting universal structures are known for limits when two or more external particles are taken to be soft.…”

“…In the last equation we employ the usual bracket notation, see, e.g., [40]. Then S ψ + i may be written as [s,i] x,i s,i x,s , compare [41]. Thus the positive helicity gravitino soft limit is the combination of a helicity lowering supersymmetry transformation and the multiplication of an angle dependent factor S ψ + i [26].…”

“…In this note, we study a matter coupled non-Abelian gauge theory. The reason for coupling matter is to have a consistent investigation into both the leading and subleading soft gluon theorem, while the tree-level sub-leading soft factor vanishes in pure Yang-Mills theory [36] under a certain prescription in which one solves the momentum conservation of the hard gluons according to the cyclic order in partial amplitudes (see also a supersymmetric extension [37]). Our results show that the leading soft gluon theorem is nothing but the Ward identity for asymptotic symmetries of the matter coupled non-Abelian gauge theory.…”
