SOD3 and eNOS genotypes are associated with SOD activity and NOx

Abstract: Oxidative stress, characterized by increased reactive oxygen species production and/or decreased antioxidant enzyme activity, plays an important role in the pathogenesis of hypertension. The identification of molecular markers corresponding to the oxidative stress status of hypertension may assist in the antioxidant therapy of hypertension. In the present study, superoxide dismutase (SOD) and endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) were analyzed as markers of hypertension responding to oxidative stress. The p… Show more

“…Copper has been widely reported to affect antioxidant and immunological activities of organisms (Chen et al., ; Festa, Helsel, Franz, & Thiele, ; Guo, Miao, Xian, Qian, & Wang, ; Johnson et al., ). The levels of SOD, aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and GSH were regarded as the biomarkers of oxidative stress (Dong, Li, Liu, & Zhao, ; Kumar, Swaminathan, Clemens, & Dey, ; Su et al., ). The cytokines interleukin‐1 (IL‐1) and tumour necrosis factor (TNF) are associated with immunological activities (Hogaboam, Snider, & Collins, ).…”

“…Indeed, endothelial dysfunction is accompanied with impaired nitric oxide (NO)-dependent vasodilatation, which is characterized by reduced endothelial NO synthase (eNOS) activity and/or enhanced inactivation of NO by increased oxidative stress [13,14,15]. In addition, increased levels of reactive oxygen species (ROS) contribute to endothelial dysfunction and vascular remodeling, which can be compensated by an increased expression of superoxide dismutase (SOD) to maintain the redox homeostasis as the first antioxidant defense system [16]. It should be noted that low expression of sEng is associated with decreased NO-dependent vasodilatation and lower expression of eNOS [17,18,19].…”

“…SOD [23, 24], AST [25, 26], ALT [27, 28], and GSH are associated with oxidative stress [29–34]. Here, the levels of SOD, AST, ALT, and GSH were measured.…”
