Social Sustainability in Gated Communities Versus Conventional Communities: The Case of Amman

Green Human Resource Management (GHRM) reflects the aspect of human resource management in environmental management, and it focuses on the role of human resources in preventing pollution through the operational processes of a business. GHRM plays a vital role in environmental management as the human resource function also plays an important role in achieving the company's goals of a green company. Therefore, this study aims to identify the direct effect of the Green Human Resource Management variable on the participation of farmer group members and the indirect effect of Organizational Commitment as a mediating variable. The population of this study was all farmer group members in Tirtomartani Village with a total of 510 members. The determination of the sample used the cluster random sampling technique because the groups have similar characteristics such as farming behavior, level of education, farming patterns, plants planted, size of fields, to the organizational structure of each farmer group. This study used a five-point Likert scale with 5 for strongly agree and 1 for strongly disagree. Data were collected from 110 respondents. The analysis was performed with the help of SmartPLS with the Path Analysis Method. The results showed that Green Recruitment and Selection, Green Training, Green Performance Management, and Green Payment and Reward have a positive and significant effect on the participation of farmer group members, while Green Involvement did not. Moreover, organizational commitment cannot be used as a mediating variable in this research model. Farmer groups had programs to develop skills, knowledge and attitudes related to good environmental management so that the participation of their members' increased. A successful organization means that each member pays more attention to green performance targets, and indicators of green performance success, evaluate green performance and reduce errors that affect the decline in the predetermined green performance.

The Rise of Gated Communities in Amman from the Old to the Modern: Socio-Spatial Impact on the Surrounding

The spread of gated communities in Amman calls for a nuanced investigation as they increasingly become the preferred housing choice for middle and upper-middle residents. This article attempts to correlate the social and spatial characteristics of Arabian neighbourhoods with the implications associated with gated communities, such as fragmentation and seclusion. The investigation employs a descriptive-analytic method and historical inquiry, including the evolution of Amman's master plan. In addition to case study observations and analysis of Al Andalucí a being the first gated community developed in Amman. Findings suggest that separation and segregation can be achieved without affecting the quality of life, as walls, historically, played a vital role in encouraging interaction. Notably, gated communities show no correlation with the historical morphological context as they symbolise segregation, fragmentation, and exclusion. This paper contributes to a better understanding of the pragmatic notion of gates and walls in history and how people interacted spatially and socially, which can be echoed in modern gated communities aiming to reduce their impacts on the surroundings.

Household Participations and Sustainable Development Programs: Social Impact of Government Assistance in Indonesia

This study aims to evaluate the impact of government funding on household members' participation in social activities. The data used in this study comes from the publication of the Indonesia Family Life Survey (IFLS) which contains information on aspects of household life in Indonesia, including social activities The main problem in household economic analysis is too many determinants of social activity at both the household and community levels. As a result, there are many confounding factors at the household and community level. Therefore, to isolate the effect of un-observed heterogeneity at the household level, this study uses a First-Difference approach. Meanwhile, to overcome the possibility of bias at the community level, this study uses a community-level Fixed-Effect approach. The combination of First Difference (FD) and Fixed Effect (FE) to isolate various external determinants in the model is an important innovation in this research. The results of the study show that households that receive government assistance are more involved in social activities. For this reason, appropriate government assistance can be used to increase community participation in development. This research in the future can still be developed by expanding the scope of social activities analyzed.
