Over the past decades, both the quantity and quality of food supply for millions of people have improved substantially in the course of economic growth across the developing world. However, the number of undernourished people has resumed growth in the 2010s amid food supply disruptions, economic slowdowns, and protectionist restrictions to agricultural trade. Having been common to most nations, these challenges to the food security status of the population still vary depending on the level of economic development and national income of individual countries. In order to explore the long-run determinants of food supply transformations, this study employs five-stage multiple regression analysis to identify the strengths and directions of effects of agricultural production parameters, income level, price indices, food trade, and currency exchange on supply of calories, proteins, and fats across 11 groups of agricultural products in 1980–2018. To address the diversity of effects across developing nations, the study includes 99 countries of Asia, Europe, Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa categorized as low-income, lower-middle-income, and upper-middle-income economies. It is found that in low-income countries, food supply parameters are more strongly affected by production factors compared to economic and trade variables. The effect of economic factors on the food supply of higher-value food products, such as meat and dairy products, fruit, and vegetables, increases with the rise in the level of income, but it stays marginal for staples in all three groups of countries. The influence of trade factors on food supply is stronger compared to production and economic parameters in import-dependent economies irrelevant of the gross national income per capita. The approach presented in this paper contributes to the research on how food supply patterns and their determinants evolve in the course of economic transformations in low-income countries.

Food waste (FW) has been increasingly recognized as a severe environmental, social, and economic problem. Therefore, it should be tackled innovatively by analyzing and synthesizing existing solutions. This study aims to achieve a comprehensive understanding of different social innovation measures adopted for reducing FW using a systematic literature review. After locating, collecting, evaluating, and analyzing 50 publications from four databases, we conclude that social innovation activities such as digital food-sharing platforms, social supermarkets, solidarity stores, and food rescue hubs are widely deployed in different FW reduction processes. Based on the findings, we synthesized several research gaps and proposed corresponding future research directions related to research methodology, country, food redistribution, food rescue, food donation, and food sharing. These directions include conducting research to develop suitable key performance indicators to evaluate the performance of digital food-sharing platforms, linking with specific theory to conduct empirical research on partnership analysis regarding social supermarkets, and investigating the structure of multiplex relations among different participants in the food rescue activities using social network analysis. We suggest that more keywords should be scrutinized and included when searching publications in future research as keyword selection is subjective.

Winter wheat is one of the most important food products. Increasing food demand and limited land resources have forced the development of agricultural production to be more refined and efficient. The most important part of agricultural production is sowing. With the promotion of precision agriculture, precision seeding has become the main component of modern agricultural seeding technology system, and the adoption of precision seeding technology is an important means of large-scale production and cost saving and efficiency enhancement. However, the current sowing technology and sowing equipment cannot meet the requirements of wheat sowing accuracy. In this context, a differential perturbation particle swarm optimization (DPPSO) algorithm is proposed by embedding differential perturbation into particle swarm optimization, which shows fast convergence speed and good global performance. After that the DPPSO is used to optimize the convolutional neural network (CNN) to build an optimized CNN (DPPSO-CNN) model and applied to the field of crops fine sowing. Finally, the experimental results show that the proposed method not only has a faster convergence rate but also achieves better wheat seeding performance. The research of this paper an effectively improves the accuracy and uniformity of wheat seeding and lay a foundation for improving wheat yield per unit area and promotes the intelligent development of agriculture in the future.
