SmartPhoto: A Resource-Aware Crowdsourcing Approach for Image Sensing with Smartphones

Abstract: Photos obtained via crowdsourcing can be used in many critical applications. Due to the limitations of communication bandwidth, storage and processing capability, it is a challenge to transfer the huge amount of crowdsourced photos. To address this problem, we propose a framework, called SmartPhoto, to quantify the quality (utility) of crowdsourced photos based on the accessible geographical and geometrical information (called metadata) including the smartphone's orientation, position and all related parameter… Show more

“…The weighted Euclidean distance is used to calculate the appropriate route in the area to calculate the similarity of the nodes in the graph. According to the formula, find the most similar time the sequence coordinates are compared to find the most suitable path as shown in the figure above [23].…”

“…Crowdsourced VR Video Generation: The current VR market lacks of UHD video sources, owing to the harsh demand for UHD 360-degree video acquisition equipment and the long video shooting process. Except for a low-cost design on video shooting devices, the VR content can also be generated from aggression of crowdsoured image or video clips [120]- [122]. However, such methods often have resource constraints in terms of bandwidth, storage, and processing capability, which limit the number of videos that can be crowdsourced.…”

“…As a result, VCS has broadened the range of mobile crowdsensing applications. Flexsensing [ 2 ], LuckyPhoto [ 3 ], SmartPhoto [ 4 ], Picpick [ 5 ], FlierMeet [ 6 ], and CrowdTracking [ 7 ] are examples of previous projects that demonstrate that VCS is useful and, in many cases, superior to traditional visual sensing solutions that rely on the deployment of stationary cameras for monitoring.…”
