Urban development has always brought some impacts to the existing settlements’ dynamic. Heritage settlements acted as a resilient effort in adapting urban developments. Based on the archipelago’s potential wealth in ethnic diversities and cultural communities, the heterogeneity of urban society has always existed. Ethnic settlements (such as Chinese) are often found in developing countries. The unique characteristics of Chinese ethnic settlements set them apart from other ethnic settlements in the same city (such as Arab, Javanese, and others) in terms of their physical environment and community activities. The values of local wisdom in Chinese ethnic settlements in Chinatown Area of Malang were explored and compared to Kembang Jepun area of Surabaya, using typology as an approach in data analysis and processing. Urban design elements such as land use, style, building functions, accessibility, circulation, public space, green space, signage and conservation areas were discussed in this study context of urban heritage. The aim of the study was to be the future guidelines to the government in directing special ethnic settlements’ arrangement (especially Chinese) along with the characters, as well as providing theoretical input for academics to strengthen the local characters with relatively different ethnic settlements in various cities of archipelago. This study showed that Chinese architecture tolerate, adapt and maintain physical aspects through buildings and the living culture.

Measuring the sociocultural productivity of heritage sites remains an ongoing issue for international organizations concerned with the conservation and promotion of traditional sites. The productivity of these locations is not only affected by tangible elements but also by intangible factors, such as the emotions generated by the experiences. For this purpose, 597 employees of hotels in these historical locations who had visited one of the 14 heritage sites in Spain assessed what role emotions play in this contribution. The methodology used was the application of structural equations. Several conclusions have been drawn utilizing the SmartPLS 4 software. The first is that the generation of positive emotions comes exclusively from cultural and historical dynamization and not from technological advances or an eagerness to learn. The second is that both the application of technological advances and cultural dynamization have a direct impact on productivity.

Technological empowerment has facilitated the development of cities, which have progressed from pre-industrial to industrial to information-based and are currently transitioning towards the advanced stage of smart cities. The evolution and transformation of cities are fuelled by technology, which serves as a key driver. Disruptive technologies are radically scientific innovations that dramatically change the way consumers, businesses, and industries operate by destroying the value of existing technical competencies, thereby providing organisations with the capability or technical foundation to alter their business environments. To ensure that a city has a clear understanding of its smart city development direction, it is crucial to establish a scientifically valid and reliable evaluation index and method to analyse and recognise the disruptive technologies closely related to industrial development, transformation, and competitiveness in smart cities. However, there is a paucity of study on this topic. This paper addresses this research gap by developing a framework for disruptive technology identification and evaluation for smart cities using an entropy weight method and analytic hierarchy process. The evaluation index system contains 5 primary indicators and 11 secondary indicators according to the connotation of disruptive technologies in smart cities. The feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed framework are verified in the field of information science. This study provides technical knowledge and theoretical support for the evaluation and construction of smart cities.
