sLORETA allows reliable distributed source reconstruction based on subdural strip and grid recordings

Abstract: Source localization based on invasive recordings by subdural strip and grid electrodes is a topic of increasing interest. This simulation study addresses the question, which factors are relevant for reliable source reconstruction based on sLORETA. MRI and electrode positions of a patient undergoing invasive presurgical epilepsy diagnostics were the basis of sLORETA simulations. A boundary element head model derived from the MRI was used for the simulation of electrical potentials and source reconstruction. Foc… Show more

“…S12 (supplementary materials) shows the IRES solutions in this data set. Comparing these results with the clinical findings reported in (Dümpelmann et al, 2012), the obtained results are in well accordance with such findings. Additionally the source localization is performed using the cMEM algorithm (Grova et al, 2006) on another Brainstorm tutorial (http://neuroimage.usc.edu/brainstorm/Tutorials/EpilepsyBest?highlight=%28cMEM%29).…”

“…This tutorial includes the anonymous data of a patient suffering from focal fronto-parietal epilepsy, who underwent surgery and is seizure-free within a 5 year follow-up duration (http://neuroimage.usc.edu/brainstorm/Tutorials/Epilepsy). The data in this tutorial were originally analyzed and published in a paper by Dümpelmann et al (Dümpelmann et al, 2012). The patient underwent iEEG recording prior to surgery.…”

“…It is assumed that the ECoG allows a much better analysis of the sources than the EEG, because of the elimination of the smearing effect of the skull bones and because of a much higher signal to noise ratio (SNR). In the recent literature, rather few source localization attempts based on ECoG analysis were published (Gharib et al, 1995;Zhang et al, 2008;Dümpelmann et al, 2009Dümpelmann et al, , 2012Ramantani et al, 2013).…”

“…Auch die Analyse von Propagationsphänomenen könnte so verbessert werden. Erste Ansätze der Modellierung der Daten aus invasiven Elektroden mit "standardized low-resolution electromagnetic tomography" (sLORE-TA, [16]) oder im Modell eines komplexen neuronalen Netzes sind vielversprechend ( [13,14]). …”
