Sliding Mode Control of Vehicle Equipped with Brake-by-Wire System considering Braking Comfort

Abstract: For passengers, the most common feeling during running on the bumpy road is continuous vertical discomfort, and when the vehicle is braking, especially the emergency braking, the instantaneous inertia of the vehicle can also cause a strong discomfort of the passengers, so studying the comfort of the vehicle during the braking process is of great significance for improving the performance of the vehicle. This paper presented a complete control scheme for vehicles equipped with the brake-by-wire (BBW) system aim… Show more

“…In addition, simulation-based studies have utilized other methods, such as fuzzy logic and a sliding mode controller [18], an observer-based controller [19], and a PI controller [20], to optimize braking maneuvers with respect to passenger comfort. The PI controller-based system developed by Lee and Choi [20] limited both acceleration and jerk, providing a smoother experience for the passengers.…”

“…The system is simulated on Simulink in MATLAB to realize its effectiveness in achieving the required goals [31]. Chen et al [32] proposed a new control design for the braking system of a brake-by-wire car. The new design aims at helping cars to move on unpaved roads to stabilize their braking power to have smooth running [33].…”

“…A classification method is used to measure the intention of a driver to use the brakes or not [33]. The method uses fuzzy logic to solve the classification problem [32]. The intention of divers is sensed from signals produced by human biological organs.…”

“…The application of intelligent technology in vehicles essentially provides better services for humans. [6][7][8][9][10][11] Therefore, it is also very important to improve braking comfort through the brake-by-wire system. Creating a more comfortable brake system while ensuring braking safety has generated growing research interest.…”
