Skin penetration and antioxidant effect of cosmeto-textiles with gallic acid

Abstract: In this work, the antioxidant gallic acid (GA) has been encapsulated in microspheres prepared with poly-ε-caprolactone (PCL) and incorporated into polyamide (PA) obtaining the cosmeto-textile. The topical application of the cosmeto-textile provides a reservoir effect in the skin delivery of GA. The close contact of the cosmeto-textile, containing microsphere-encapsulated GA (ME-GA), with the skin and their corresponding occlusion, may be the main reasons that explain the crossing of active principle (GA) throu… Show more

“…These textiles are designed to have specific functions, namely protection, warmth, and support. Innovative methodologies have been established for the development of biological textiles with extra properties including breathability; texture; antimicrobial, and cosmetic properties [1][2][3]. Cosmetotextiles are examples of high-performance textiles representing a fusion of fabric materials with cosmetic active substances [4].…”

“…The cosmetic substances are attached to the fabrics, and when they come in contact with the human body and skin, they are transferred from the textile to the skin to reach the specific target [5]. Despite not being accepted as cosmetic products, they are able to impart skincare benefits, fighting ageing, and promote wellness and pleasant feelings [1,6,7]. Current cosmetotextiles in the market claim to be moisturizing, cellulite reducing, perfumed, body slimming, energizing, rejuvenating, refreshing, improving the firmness and elasticity of skin, or reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles [5,8].…”

“…This scenario is no different in the textile sector, which constantly seeks technological innovation, especially in the dyeing, finishing, and water treatment sectors. With the market and consumers increasingly demanding environmental improvements, the development of new features combined with green processes has become a constant challenge [ 3 ]. Among the various materials that can be used for this purpose CDs stand out; they are oligosaccharides made up of glucose units that are organized in a conical trunk shape, providing a well-defined cavity for the formation of host–guest complexes with a series of molecules [ 4 ].…”

“…In recent years, the number of companies producing cosmeto-textiles and the number of active ingredients incorporated into textile materials is constantly increasing. At present there are a number of textile products in the market with cosmetic properties (moisturizing, slimming, energizing, refreshing, relaxing, vitalizing and UV protection) [4]. Because textile materials can act as a delivery system, they can be useful for in vivo applications [5].…”
