Skeletal Class lll Severe Openbite Treatment Using Implant Anchorage

Abstract: Abstract:A female patient with a skeletal Class III severe anterior openbite was treated using miniplates as the anchorage. The patient was 15 years and 10 months of age when she reported to our university hospital with a chief complaint of anterior openbite and reversed occlusion. The patient had an anterior openbite with an overjet of Ϫ3.0 mm and overbite of Ϫ5.0 mm and a Class III molar relationship. The cephalometric analysis showed a skeletal Class III relationship (ANB 0Њ). After the extraction of the bi… Show more

“…This means that subject with both a large gonial angle and a small overbite or a crossbite/scissor bite had low HS, and HS may not depend on degree of gonial angle in subjects without those types of malocclusion. Reportedly, since open bite and crossbite or scissor bite are associated with MOF and OCA, low MOF/small OCA by those malocclusions may relate to low HS. Thus, the relationship between malocclusion and low HS may be an early indicator of general health.…”

“…In a measurement of physical function, HS is used as a convenient and useful measurement method, and collated with lower arm and leg strength . On the other hand, MOF and OCA is associated with maxillofacial morphology, such as high mandibular plane (Mp) angle and long face, and with malocclusion such as open bite, posterior crossbite and scissor bite . However, the relationships between maxillofacial morphology/malocclusion and HS remain unclear.…”

“…The objective of extracting the premolars is to mesialize the molars and to allow anterior rotation of the mandible [25]. The difficulty encountered when moving the molars forward lies in preventing extrusion during mesialization, which is especially difficult to control in growing children.…”

“…Das Ziel bei der Extraktion der Prämolaren liegt darin, die Molaren zu mesialisieren und der Mandibula eine anteriore Rotation zu ermögli-chen [25]. Die Schwierigkeit bei der Mesialisierung der Molaren liegt in der Vermeidung der Extrusion während der Mesialisierung, die besonders während des Wachstums schwer zu kontrollieren ist.…”

“…According to previous case reports (26,39) M-D angulations reflected on the anterior overjet relation. It was reported that overjet was improved by distally inclining the mandibular molars using implants as orthodontic anchorage, and overbite was improved by extruding the anterior teeth (39) . Accordingly, this might be another important factor for mal-perfection of the anterior open bite closure of the present cases.…”
