Abstract. In order to analyze the influence of the lateral size of graphene oxide (GO) on the properties of natural rubber/ graphene oxide (NR/GO) nanocomposites, three different sized graphene oxide sheets, namely G1, G2 and G3 were used to fabricate a series of NR/GO nanocomposites by latex mixing. The results indicate that adding GO can remarkably increase the modulus of NR. The enhancement of modulus is strongly dependent on the size of GO sheets incorporated. G1 with smallest sheet size gives the maximum reinforcement effect compared with G2 and G3. Dynamic mechanical measurement and swelling ratios (Q f /Q g ) indicate that G1 has stronger interfacial interaction with NR. XRD shows G1 is more effective in accelerating the strain-induced crystallization (SIC) of NR. The strong interfacial interaction facilitates the stress transfer and strain-induced crystallization, both of which lead to the improved modulus.

In this paper, we discuss a back-end CMOS fabrication process for the large-scale integration of 2D materials on SOI (siliconon-insulator) platform and present a complete theoretical study of the change in the effective refractive index of 2D materialsenabled silicon nitride waveguide structures. The chemical vapour deposition (CVD) and liquid exfoliation fabrication methods are described for the fabrication of graphene, WS2 and MoS2 thin films. Finite-difference frequency-domain (FDFD) approach and the Transfer Matrix Method were used in order to mathematically describe these structures. The introduction of thin films of 2D material onto Si3N4 waveguide structures allows manipulation of the optical characteristics to a high degree of precision by varying the Fermi-level through the engineering of the number of atomically thin layers or by electrical tuning, for example. Based on the proposed tuning approach, designs of graphene, WS2 and MoS2 enabled Si3N4 micro-ring structures are presented for the visible and NIR range, which demonstrate versatility and desirable properties for a wide range of applications, such as bio-chemical sensing and optical communications.

Copper oxides and its salts are now widely used as pesticides to control fungal and bacterial diseases of field crops. Copper toxicity is often a major contributor of human health problems caused through accumulation of excess copper ions in various organs via drinking water, fruits and vegetables. So, detection and estimation of cupric ions in biological organs, drinking water, fruits and vegetables are extremely important. Recently, a fluorescence based sensor using coumarin dye (high quantum yield) has been proposed to detect micro-molar Cu ++ ion in biological organs. But major problem with coumarin dye is that it is insoluble in water and undergoes dye-dye aggregation in organic solvents. We proposed here a synthetic scheme of preparation of graphene oxide conjugated coumarin dye derivative which would be water dispersible and expected to be an ideal candidate for Cu 2+ ion estimation in biological organs and drinking water.
