Size Analysis of the Late Pliocene-Early Pleistocene Upper Siwalik Sediments, Northwestern Himalaya, India

Abstract: Size analysis of the Late Pliocene-Early Pleistocene Upper Siwalik sediments comprising the Pinjor Formation in the type area and adjoining regions reveals that the sediments are bimodal to polymodal in nature, medium to fine grained and are moderately sorted. The inclusive graphic standard deviation and moment standard deviation values suggest the deposition of sediments in shallow to moderately deep fluvial agitated water. The log probability plots reveal that saltation mode is the dominant mode of transport… Show more

“…This shows a very distinct peak on the R and ρ distributions. The graphic mean and the moment mean were found to be similar as also observed by Singh and Chaudri [8] in their study.…”

“…Advanced analysis was done on the size distribution data and cumulative mass percentage frequency distributions were computed at quarter phi intervals. Graphic measures were adopted as explained by Singh and Chaudhri [8], to determine the various distribution parameters. Figure 3 shows the frequency curves by mass of two extreme distributions of SW and Glass Ballotini samples on a phi scale from the data.…”

“…Grain size analysis of the sediments from Ogun river, south western Nigeria was carried by (Okeyode and Jibiri, 2012). Grain size analysis is carried from late upper Siwalik sediments of late Pliocene to early Pleistocene revels that sediments are bimodal to polymodel in nature and ne to medium grained with moderately sorted (Singh and Chaudhri, 2013). The grain size analysis of Quaternary sediments from Lendi river sub-basin has been carried out to study its textural parameters and statistical measures to delineate the depositional environments in the study area.…”
