Single‐run capillary electrophoresis method for the fast simultaneous determination of amoxicillin, clavulanate, and potassium

Abstract: We report a new fast method for the simultaneous determination of amoxicillin, clavulanate, and potassium by capillary electrophoresis with capacitively coupled contactless conductivity detection. Samples containing potassium as the cation, and both amoxicillin and clavulanate as anions were determined simultaneously in a single run (in less than 45 s) using 10 mmol/L of both 2-amino-2-hydroxymethyl-propane-1,3-diol and 3-{[2-hydroxy-1,1-bis(hydroxymethyl)ethyl]amino}-1-propanesulfonic acid (pH 8.4) as the bac… Show more

“…2 AMO is official in British Pharmacopeia (BP), 1 European Pharmacopeia (EP) 3 and United States Pharmacopeia (USP) 4 , they include HPLC method for its determination. It is still a limited number of analytical methods that are reported for the determination of AMO including kinetics degradation, [5][6][7] spectrophotometric, [8][9][10][11][12][13] UHPLC UPLC and mass spectrometry, [14][15][16][17][18][19] thin layer chromatography (TLC), [20][21][22] capillary electrophoresis, [23][24][25][26] high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), [27][28][29][30][31] in vitro dissolution studies, [32][33][34][35][36] amoxicillin residues in animal tissues using SPE-LC, 37 SPE-cation exchange, 38 in eggs using HPLC-FLD, 39 or HPLC-MS 40 and in commercial meat and milk samples 41 using HPLC-FLD. According to the best of our knowledge there is no validated method for the determination of amoxicillin residues and application to cleaning machine in pharmaceutical industries.…”

“…Targeted enzyme inhibitors are thus included in pharmaceutical formulations in order to ensure appropriate antibacterial activity of amoxicillin. Since both substances (the drug and the enzyme inhibitor) are ionisable organic compounds, CE‐C 4 D was applied in their simultaneous sub‐minute determination along with sodium and potassium, which were co‐present in the formulations . An interesting feature of CE‐C 4 D was demonstrated in this approach.…”

“…As the condition of the electroosmotic flow can be changed by CTAB, [15][16][17][18] in order to attain the best selectivity, a BGE containing His/MES and CTAB was prepared in different proportions to investigate its effect on separation quality. The His/MES concentration was fixed at 20 mM, and the CTAB concentration ranged from 0 to 1 mM (0, 0.01, 0.05, 0.1, 0.5, 1 mM).…”
