Simultaneous Determination of Inorganic Cations and Anions in Microchip Electrophoresis Using High-voltage Relays

Abstract: A new and simple method for the simultaneous determination of cations and anions by microchip electrophoresis with capacitively coupled contactless conductivity detection (ME-CD) is described. The best analytical performance was found by applying a sinusoidal wave with 800 kHz frequency and 20 V amplitude. An optimized background electrolyte (BGE) composed of 20 mM His/MES and 0.01 mM CTAB was chosen for the simultaneous analysis. Samples containing K, Na, and Li as the cations and Cl, F and PO as anions were … Show more

“…This voltage signal was then lock-in amplified [ 31 ], filtered and gained, and finally sampled by an acquisition unit as shown in Figure 2 . The high-voltage modules and associated circuits used in the system have been described in the previous work [ 32 ]. The data acquisition was done by a data acquisition unit (MAX194, Maxim Integrated, San Jose, CA, USA) and a software written in LABVIEW (National Instruments, Austin, TX, USA).…”

“…A variety of analytical methods have been employed to measure potassium levels. These include atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) (Ieggli et al, 2010), inductively coupled plasma mass spectroscopy (ICP-MS) (Paulauskas et al, 2020;Yan et al, 2017), ion chromatography (Caland et al, 2012), electrophoresis (Huang et al, 2018), and electrochemical methods (Sedenho et al, 2013). Although these methods provide high sensitivity and resolution, they require expensive equipment, large amounts of chemicals, and a trained technician.…”

“…These include pressureassisted separation, 14 dual opposite-end injection, 15,16 dual single-end injection, 17 dual-channel capillary electrophoresis, 18 and high-voltage switching in microchip electrophoresis. 19 These methods have high resolution but some require specific instrumentation or two detectors for concurrent determination of cations and anions in a single run.…”
