Single-Component Molecular Conductors

Abstract: The novel nickel complex with the extended-TTF dithiolate ligand [Ni(tmdt) 2 ](tmdt ¼ trimethylenedithiotetrathiafulvalenedithiolate) is the first single-component molecular crystal with metallic state down to very low temperature. Recently, a direct evidence for the presence of three-dimensional electron and hole Fermi surfaces was obtained by detecting de Haars-van Alphen (dHvA) oscillations of this system. An isostructural highly conducting [Au(tmdt) 2 ] system (r(RT) % 50 S cm À1 (compaction pellet sample)… Show more

“…The S-S contacts are 3.44-3.75 Å. The structural features suggest that the complex is a three-dimensional (3D) anisotropic solid [46] Briefly, the examples of structures given herein and those described elsewhere (see and references therein) show the existence of a variety of three and low dimensional networks formed from short or large M-S, S-S, etc. contacts.…”

“…Also, crystals of neutral complexes with an extended TTF-dithiolato ligand have been obtained by electroxidation of the corresponding monoanionic or/and the dianionic complexes. (see [22,23,43,45,46]). …”

“…These neutral complexes enabled the establishment of a new paradigm of molecular conductors where free carriers and metallic properties can be generated in molecular compounds based on a neutral single-component by a mechanism characteristic of semi-metals. The requirements for such properties were soon established as a small HOMO-LUMO energy gap and strong 3D intermolecular interactions [ 4 , 5 , 6 ].…”
