Simultaneous quantitative gas‐chromatographic analysis of ethosuximide, phenobarbitone, primidone and diphenylhydantoin.

Abstract: 1 Therapeutic serum concentrations of ethosuximide, phenobarbitone, primidone, and dipheylhydantoin were assayed from 1 ml of human serum. The extraction procedure was common to all four drugs and three internal standards. 2 Subsequent isothermal gas chromatographic analysis of serum extracts produced well resolved peaks for the underivatized quantitation of ethosuximide and phenobarbitone. Primidone and diphenylhydantoin were determined as methylated derivatives. 3 Mean coefficients of variation for the assay… Show more

“…methoin and ethotoin) are infrequently used nowadays. Carbamazepine (Latham and Varlow, 1976), phenylbutazone (Rutherford and Flanagan, 1978), caffeine and theophylline (Dechtiaruk et aI., 1979;Schier and Gan, 1979;St Onge et aI., 1979) have been demonstrated to co-elute with certain internal standards used in the various GLC assays for phenobarbitone and phenytoin. The selection of different standards might eliminate these interferences.…”
