Simultaneous multi-channel near-eye display: a holographic retinal projection display with large information content

Abstract: Augmented reality (AR) near-eye displays (NEDs) are emerging as the next-generation display platform. The existing AR NED only present one single video channel at a time, same as traditional media such as TVs and smartphones. In this Letter, to the best of our knowledge, we propose for the first time a multi-channel holographic retinal projection display (RPD), which can provide multi-channel image sources simultaneously, thus greatly increasing the information content. Due to the superposition capacity of a h… Show more

“…The image quality was significantly improved when compared with the conventional method. This method can also be extended to color, which requires the recording of information from all three RGB wavelengths into the same channel and the simultaneous use of a tri-color laser [24,44]. In order to quantitatively illustrate the enhancement of the proposed method for achieving multi-depth image quality, we performed PSNR calculations for both the simulation results of this method and the simulation results of the conventional method mentioned in Section 2, as shown in Figure 9.…”

“…However, the matched video sources are still hard to access or generate for commercial use due to the large amount of 3D data. Apart from these, the Maxwellian NED is less computationally expensive and relieves the VAC problem by providing an “always in-focus” image, but the monocular depth cues are not recovered [ 24 , 25 , 26 , 27 , 28 , 29 , 30 , 31 , 32 ].…”
