Simultaneous Imaging of Ribonucleic Acid and Hydrogen Sulfide in Living Systems with Distinct Fluorescence Signals Using a Single Fluorescent Probe

Abstract: Ribonucleic acid (RNA) and hydrogen sulfide (H2S) are important genes and gaseous signal molecules in physiological environment. However, simultaneous investigation of distribution and interrelation of RNA and H2S in living systems is restricted by lack of functional molecular tools. To address this critical challenge, the development of TP‐MIVC is described as the first paradigm of the probes that can concurrently report ribonucleic acid and hydrogen sulfide with distinct fluorescence signals in the cancer ce… Show more

“…However, probes capable of displaying different response functions when exposed to different inputs, have attracted increasing attention in recent years, in part because they show promise for the construction of so-called molecular logic gates and molecular keypad lock devices 6. Although a considerable number of multi-functional fluorescent probes have been reported to date, as a general rule a differential response is displayed only upon exposure to vastly different species (neutral vs. ionic analytes)7 or localization in disparate biological environments 8. Differential organelle labelling remains a particular challenge.…”

“…Besides, the uorescence imaging has high sensitivity and selectivity towards its target based on uorescent probes. [17][18][19][20][21][22][23][24] To assist the uorescence imaging of H 2 S, it is necessary to develop a uorescent probe with excellent performance. Based on reports of the good selectivity of the piperazinyl-NBD-based probe towards H 2 S, we selected piperazinyl-NBD as a response group for H 2 S in designing our probe.…”
