Simultaneous Determination of Multiple Phytohormones in Plant Extracts by Liquid Chromatography−Electrospray Tandem Mass Spectrometry

Abstract: A rapid multiresidue method to quantify three different classes of plant hormones has been developed. The reduced concentrations of these metabolites in real samples with complex matrixes require sensitive techniques for their quantification in small amounts of plant tissue. The method described combines high-performance liquid chromatography with electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry. Deuterium-labeled standards were added prior to sample extraction to achieve an accurate quantification of abscisic… Show more

“…This technique has been used to simultaneously determine the levels of different plant hormones, including IAA. The addition of labelled deuterium before extraction improves the technique precision, significantly reducing the time required for sample preparation and hormone analysis [118]. Capillary electrophoresis (CE) is another technique that has been used for auxin purification.…”

“…Liquid chromatography (LC) coupled to electrospray ionization (ESI) and tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) is a selective and sensitive tool for the trace analysis of multiple compounds in various matrices. Methods have been developed using LC-MS/MS to quantify melatonin [13], serotonin [13][14][15], HIAA [16,17], IAA [13,[18][19][20], and 3-IS [21]. Amirkhani et al [22] described a method to determine Trp, KYN, and KA in human plasma by capillary LC-MS/MS.…”
