Simultaneous Determination of Five Antioxidants in Food by HPLC with Fluorescence Detection.

Abstract: An HPLC method with fluorescence detection was developed for the determination of propyl gallate, nordihydroguaiaretic acid, butylated hydroxyanisole (2-and 3-tert-butyl-4-hydroxyanisole), tert-butylhydroquinone and octyl gallate in edible oils and foods. The antioxidants in edible oil were isolated directly with acetonitrile saturated with n-hexane. The antioxidants in food were extracted with ethyl acetate and the extract was concentrated under vacuum. They were isolated from the residue with acetonitrile sat… Show more

“…A HPLC method with fluorescence detection [118] was developed for the determination of propyl gallate, nordihydroguaiaretic acid, butylated hydroxyanisole, tert-butylhydroquinone and octyl gallate in edible oils and foods. The HPLC separation was performed on a C18 column using a mixture of 5% acetic acid-acetonitrile-methanol as the mobile phase and monitored by using a fluorescence detector.…”

“…Developing a suitable and efficient analysis method has attracted the interest of many researchers in recent years [1]. So far, methods such as high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) [2], pH-based flow injection analysis [3], and synchronous fluorescence [4] have been employed for the determination of hydroquinone. However, the methods above are limited in many applications due to their high cost and complex analysis procedures.…”
