Simulation study of mixed pressure and flow control systems for optimal operation of centrifugal pumping plants

Abstract: A Simulink/DriveSize based model for the mutual pressure and flow control of a centrifugal pumping plant with a variable speed drive is proposed. The model provides the possibility of power calculation during both throttling and speed control and to estimate the optimal working point according to these calculations. The model is developed to provide the possibility of power reduction during pressure and flow maintenance with the help of mixed pressure control strategy. To evaluate the system, a series of exper… Show more

“…The induction machine losses are classified as clearly, explained in the IEEE Standard into: stator joule losses; rotor Joule losses; friction, windage losses; core losses; stray-load losses; and brush contact losses (in wound rotor machines) [1], [2], [3], [4], [5]. In terms of d-and q-axis current components on the basis of [5], the total power losses of the induction machine can be described as follows…”

“…where ω r , L m ,(L r ; R r ),(L s ; R s ), c F e and c str are the rotor angular speed, mutual inductance, rotor self inductanceresistance, stator self inductance-resistance and the stray and iron losses coefficients respectively. Then the overall squirrel-cage induction motor electric power loss can be expressed as [4], [5]:…”

“…Traditional fixed-gain Proportional-Integral (PI) and Proportional-Integral-Derivative (PID) controllers are very sensitive to parameter variations and load disturbances [39]. Control systems with standard PID controllers are widely used in different areas of manufacturing [40][41][42], but simplified to PI-controllers [43] due to simple structure and accessible calculation of regulator coefficients. The proportional gain determines are used to accelerate the transition process, as well as to counter the deviation of the controlled variable.…”
