Abstract:Abstract. A finite element model was developed to study the damage mechanisms of composite laminates under high velocity impact conditions. Modified Hashin failure criteria were used for the fiber breakage prediction. Cohesive elements were defined between two adjacent layers in the target laminate for the prediction of delamination initiation and propagation during the impact. The strain rate effects were also considered for the composite stiffness and strength. By using the developed finite element model, th… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
