Simulation on a Composite Laminate Subjected to Ballistic Impact

Abstract: Abstract. A finite element model was developed to study the damage mechanisms of composite laminates under high velocity impact conditions. Modified Hashin failure criteria were used for the fiber breakage prediction. Cohesive elements were defined between two adjacent layers in the target laminate for the prediction of delamination initiation and propagation during the impact.
